Blue Cross of Atlantic Canada aspired to have their new corporate headquarters reflect the company’s image and presence in the marketplace. The 25,000 m² mixed use project was designed in collaboration with the Arcop Group, and is anchored on the south side of Main Street in the heart of the downtown. Apart from the lead tenant, the project contains a major data processing centre, the regional headquarters for the Royal Bank and the Public Library. Very different floor plates were required to suit tenant needs.

To meet the objectives of the project, the facility consists of a three storey lowrise in front of an eight storey highrise, with a glazed atrium joining the two. The interpretation of Main Street’s historical scale and rhythm lead to the use of masonry cladding and precast concrete lintels, and helps to root the design within the downtown context. The image is one based on the past, yet clearly designed for the future.
