Situated in a park-like setting on the University of New Brunswick’s downtown Fredericton campus, the Centre for Healthy Living rises as a place where movement, learning, and well-being converge. Home to the Faculty of Kinesiology, the building parallels kinesiology’s broad cross-section of interdisciplinary studies and collaborative nature through its imitation of human anatomy. A sweeping grand staircase anchors the building, inviting students and visitors to travel upward through light-filled spaces that seem to breathe with fresh air and natural ventilation.
Earth tubes below ground help regulate the building’s climate, reflecting the same care for human health as for environmental stewardship. Beyond labs and classrooms, there is a high-performance training centre, a teaching kitchen for community outreach, and open gathering spaces where conversation and collaboration thrive. The building’s brick and glass exterior is a contemporary nod to UNB’s centuries-old campus, while green roofs blend into the site’s slopes.
Certified LEED Gold and aiming for WELL Silver, the Centre for Healthy Living embodies a vision of health not just as a subject of study, but as a way of life woven into UNB’s daily rhythm.
