Located on a greenfield site in Dieppe, the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport terminal was conceived as a new gateway for Southeastern New Brunswick—one that reflects both the region’s growing stature and its enduring sense of place. Replacing the previous facility, the new terminal was designed to accommodate rising passenger volumes while offering a welcoming, efficient, and culturally grounded experience.
The terminal integrates a wide array of functions beyond passenger processing, including customs and immigration services, airport administration, agricultural inspection, and diverse retail offerings.
These are all seamlessly organized above a discreet, below-grade parking structure that maintains clear sightlines across the airfield.
Designed in collaboration with Architectura, the project reflects the strength of multidisciplinary coordination and collective vision. The architecture is composed with a restrained regional modernism: low-slung rooflines, dormers, and skylights lend a human scale to the building, while sandstone façades anchor it to the local terrain.

Inside, the terminal becomes a space of cultural storytelling. The design integrates art, landscape, and light in celebration of Atlantic Canada’s identity, through gestures that echo riverbanks, coastlines, and tidal rhythms. Material textures and colour palettes evoke the natural setting, offering both a sense of arrival and of belonging.
Sustainability and adaptability were fundamental to the terminal’s development. From flexible interior planning to energy-conscious systems, the building is designed to support both present needs and future growth. As New Brunswick’s former Lieutenant Governor Herménégilde Chiasson remarked, the terminal is “harmonious with local landscape and culture… a gateway and showcase for this region.”
The Greater Moncton Airport terminal is a symbol of regional pride and progress, grounding travelers in a strong sense of place. It was the first recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence in Architecture in 2005.
