Once a 1970s auto garage, Tire Shack Brewing has become a defining presence in Moncton’s evolving urban culture, its latest expansion signaling both growth and renewed ambition. Transformed into a brewery in 2018, the original black-clad structure quickly became a local fixture. Rising demand soon pushed the boundaries of the site, prompting a bold new intervention: a crisp white-brick addition that honours the industrial legacy of the original while creating room for a dynamic future.
The ground floor of the new addition is designed for flexibility and function. A 100-person event space opens onto the brewing floor, offering a tactile connection between production and celebration. Natural light floods the space, playing across the textured surfaces of stainless steel tanks and polished concrete. A new garage door connects interior and exterior functions, streamlining operations while maintaining the building’s raw, adaptable character.
Upstairs, a rooftop taproom and terrace provide a more contemplative counterpoint. Clad in glass and surrounded by neighbourhood views, the space accommodates up to 60 guests in a setting that feels both elevated and embedded in the local fabric. A long stairwell window offers a quiet moment of transparency, revealing glimpses of the brewing process along the ascent. With a catering kitchen and bar-ready layout, the upper level is as suited to private events as it is to casual evenings under the sky.
In a city where architectural reuse and cultural vibrancy often intersect, Tire Shack’s evolution is both spatial and social, expanding not just capacity but community.
