The University of Prince Edward Island’s new Faculty of Medicine is a defining achievement in Atlantic Canada’s architectural, academic, and medical landscape. Inside, specialized environments foster hands-on learning and interdisciplinary exchange, from immersive simulation suites and anatomy labs to on-site clinics focused on psychology, ADHD, and broader health services. These spaces are unified by a generous public corridor that threads through the building, connecting classrooms, a 120-seat auditorium, study lounges, and gathering areas. An open stair, clad in wood and rising toward slatted ceilings, anchors the interior experience with warmth and legibility. At the top level, a glazed meeting and networking space opens to a rooftop terrace overlooking preserved wetlands and the heart of the UPEI campus—an elevated venue for reflection, events, and academic connection.
The exterior envelope of brick and composite metal panels expresses permanence while responding to its campus context. Beneath this durable shell, the building integrates sustainable systems, including a closed-loop geothermal network. Purpose-built smudging rooms affirm UPEI’s commitment to environmental stewardship and traditional healing.
